About BLAC
About BLAC

BLAC's design philosophy revolves around creating shapes that are edgy, cool, and minimalistic, amplifying the inherent advantages of carbon fiber. The brand's commitment to customization is evident in the handcrafted nature of each frame, tailor-made for every customer. Hinges, screws, and end tips are meticulously designed to complement the BLAC frames, adding a touch of exclusivity to each piece. In an industry often characterized by conformity, BLAC stands out as a beacon of creativity, embracing new materials, colors, and shapes to craft eyewear that not only fits perfectly but also makes a bold and unique statement. With an unwavering focus on quality and a dedication to innovation, BLAC continues to redefine the eyewear experience, embodying the spirit of modern design.

History

The history of the BLAC brand unfolds with designer Claus Bellinger's fascination with McLaren's groundbreaking carbon-composite MP4-1 body, a game-changer in the Formula 1 World at Silverstone in 1981. Unlike the traditional approach of assembling flat aluminum panels, the MP4-1 was the first full carbon Formula 1 body designed as a molding. This departure from convention resulted in a monumental leap in strength and durability, sparking a revolution in racing car design. The defining characteristics of the carbon fiber and fiberglass composite lay in its unique woven surface, offering an extraordinary combination of lightness and strength.

This pivotal moment marked the inception of a pioneering journey that culminated in the groundbreaking launch of the world's first carbon fiber frame by BLAC in 2008. Proudly boasting the achievement of developing the first-ever adjustable carbon frame, BLAC set itself apart. A notable feature of BLAC is its adjustable temples, a concept protected by a patent for implanting a metal core within a carbon fiber lamination. While BLAC uses a titanium core, the patent extends to all metals, solidifying the brand's commitment to innovation and pushing the boundaries of eyewear design.

Distinctive Production

The groundbreaking BLAC eyewear is meticulously crafted by the dedicated production team at Bellinger House in Risskov, Denmark. Co-founder Claus Bellinger and industrial designer Peter Wittrock lead the charge, experimenting with novel materials, colors, and shapes to complement the carbon or enhance the overall design. Staying true to the BLAC concept, they conceptualize edgy, cool, and minimalistic shapes that maximize the advantages of carbon fiber, creating a BLAC collection that is both stylish and fitting. Operating under a top-secret, innovative production process, each BLAC frame receives meticulous attention and craftsmanship, ensuring its uniqueness. Every frame is individually handcrafted for each customer, with hinges, screws, and end tips tailored specifically for BLAC frames.

This personalized approach not only guarantees a perfect fit but also adds a touch of exclusivity to every eyewear piece. The distinctive production method involves using only raw materials for the carbon fiber and fiberglass frames in the BLAC lineup. Forgoing lacquer applications, this approach allows the raw surface of the woven carbon fiber and fiberglass fabrics to take center stage, showcasing their natural beauty and unique texture.Experience the allure of these groundbreaking frames at EuroOptica, located at 280 Columbus Ave (corner of W 73rd St) and 1249 3rd Ave (corner of E 72nd St).
