FAQ

What happens during an eye examination?

During a comprehensive eye exam, you'll start by reading letters from a chart to check how sharp your vision is. After that, your optometrist will use different instruments, assessing your eyes with interchangeable lenses and shining a light into them to examine their structure and come up with the right prescription. They may also use other types of equipment to measure eye pressure, take detailed images of the optic nerve and retina for any worrying signs, or dilate your pupils with eye drops to allow for a closer examination. All procedures are absolutely painless.

How much time does a full eye exam require?

A standard examination takes 30 to 60 minutes. However, in case any additional checks or procedures such as dilatation or contact lens fitting are required, it may last longer.

How should I prepare for my eye exam?

For a standard eye examination, no special preparation is required. However, don’t forget your current glasses or contact lenses, and make sure to bring your latest prescription, even if it’s old. If you plan to pay for your visit with your insurance plan, prepare your insurance information beforehand. If you have pupil dilation planned, bring sunglasses to protect your eyes for the next several hours since they are going to be sensitive after the procedure, or arrange a ride home.

How often should I get my eyes examined?

The frequency of eye exams recommended for you varies depending on your eyes, eye condition, and medical history. If you are an adult who has no vision issues or any known risks to your eye health, a standard consensus is every 1 to 2 years. The interval between visits shortens for people over 65. People with existing eye conditions, known risk factors, or some other illnesses unrelated to eyes directly, like diabetes, may require checkups at least 1 time per year or more often. So do those who wear contact lenses. An optimal schedule can be recommended by our UES eye doctor based on your exam results.

What is the cost of an eye exam on Upper East Side?

For a self-pay comprehensive eye exam, prices start at $125. Contact lens fittings and other services outside the standard procedure may entail additional costs. You can also pay for your eye exam with your medical insurance, given that it covers vision care and is issued by one of our partner providers. If you have questions about payment options using your insurance plan, feel free to contact us at (212)-257-3110 for clarification.

How soon will my glasses be ready?

Because EuroOptica’s UES location also has an on-site lab, we offer same-day prescription glasses, provided the required lenses are in stock. Once the optometrist updates your prescription, you can choose a frame to your liking at our eyewear boutique and get the lenses cut and fitted into it that very day - all within the same location. Check with our specialists at 1249 Third Avenue to see if your order can be completed today.
